Week 8 - Thursday 21st May

It's been a busy week so far.  I've had my blood tested on Monday, on the mobile cancer unit.  This is a bus with equipment inside, and you wouldn't think it's a bus when you're in it, it feels like a very comfy ward (the chairs are super comfy, I could nap in one!).

Tuesday I had a call to go through Radiotherapy (I'll likely shorten this to Rad), including when I arrive, what the process is.  She talked me through the whole procedure, so when I arrived this morning (I'm writing this on the day of publication), I experienced exactly how she described.  I wasn't nervous anyway, as I had been given plenty of information before hand.  However, it was nice for that added reassurance.

Wednesday I had a call to go through chemotherapy.  It was much the same as the radiotherapy call, however I'll be there the whole day, compared to the Rad treatment.  I'll go through more of the chemo next week, as I have my first treatment tomorrow (Friday 22nd).

The Rad machines are all named, and most of my treatment will be given my Phoenix (there's a couple by Pegasus).  So the Harry Potter nerd in me is happy.  There are three cubicles to the left of this image (you can see one of them), where you go in, change (in my case, trousers off), and then you're walked through into the room where Phoenix is.  You lay down, they get you adjusted, and then wait for the machine to do its thing.  I think of it as a fancy x-ray machine.  The process took about 10 minutes, once at the machine, but I didn't feel anything.  One that bits over, you're free to leave.  The longest part is arriving 30 minutes before my appointment, so I have take my micro enema.  This is so there treatment is consistent by having everything in the same place each time.  If I didn't have a clear out, this could potentially move everything, and the treatment couldn't be precise, and potentially damage another part of my body.

Rad treatments are one a day, 5 days a week for 5 weeks, so I have another one after my chemo tomorrow, so super busy day.  As it's a long day, I'll be taking plenty to keep me occupied like books, games etc.

As always, look out for one another, stay home, and stay well. xxx
