Week 6 - Thursday 7th May

"If we open up a little bit more to each other, and share our stories, that's what breaks down barriers."

Not only did I create this blog to aid communication to you all about my journey, I also hope it can provide help and support to those going through a similar journey.  With not being at work, and in between my naps, I do some reading or listening to podcasts.  The above quote is from Michelle Obama, Becoming.  She has such a soothing and reassuring tone that I have occasionally fallen asleep listening to the audiobook, and have no idea where I've got to (another voice I fall asleep to - you know who you are).  She's so strong minded, yet has so much empathy for others with being so grounded from her upbringing.  I like to think I have a bit of her spirit with me.  Her book is definitely worth a read (and I've not even finished it yet!).

This week I've had no appointments, but I've still been moderately busy despite a few days where I've struggled with pain management.  However, I believe I've found a happy medium.  As I can't take codeine without food, I've balanced when I eat with when I'm due for my tablets, and it seems to be working quite well.

Those that follow me on Instagram may have noticed I've been a little more active on there.  I've been walking laps around the garden, to keep myself moving.  This has stepped up a notch, with starting to walk then jog.  This was actually quite beneficial (not only in finding out that I've become a bit unfit), but taking my mind off the pain, and releasing those lovely endorphins.  When the weather was nice, I was pottering in the garden, including planting some seeds.  I've got other things growing in the garden, which I'm posting on there as well, and will keep updating their progress on there.

I also managed to do some baking as well.  However, I used a box mix I've had for ages, because you can't get any flour from the supermarkets (so if anyone can get a bag of plain and a bag of strong white, let me know)!

Speaking of supermarkets, I've still managed to get a Tesco home delivery.  We had our first one on Monday, with no substitutions.  However, it took ages to do the online shop, mainly as there's no option to go out if I forget something.  I do miss being able to nip out (or top up from my place of work) to get some more fresh fruit and salad mid week.  However, this has lead to me using my health planner to draw up a plan of meals all week.

I firstly made a list of all the typical meals we have, including cold weather meals and more summery meals (being as the weather has been ever changing), and then went through which items would have a shorter life.  This does sound like hard work, but when you've done it once, it will make meal planner earlier going forward.  This probably took me best part of a day, on and off.  It will also help when I'm putting in my orders when I'm going through treatment, as I've already done all the hard work, and can look back at the previous weeks meal plans.  Also, by ordering what we need for the week through the plan helps cut back on buying lots of comfort food.  We did get ourselves a tub of Ben and Jerry's each (it tastes even better at £2.50 a tub), and I've still got a bit left!

I have to say, normally I'm very driven to do things when I'm at home, either on day off from work, or on holiday.  I go mad if I feel I've not achieved something, and find it difficult to stay still.  My drive is still there, I'm just more accepting that it's OK to not get lots of things done, and work too hard.  As you can see from the above, I've been quite busy, but I've been accepting of my limits, and I think I'll carry it on when I'm through all the treatment.

If you have a Google account, you can follow this blog by signing in, and then clicking the "follow" button on the left hand side.  You can also scroll down to read previous entries (all labeled by week number, to make it easy to navigate).  I publish a blog every Thursday, so if you don't have or don't want to sign up to have an account, feel free to bookmark and visit every Thursday, or whenever suits.

As ever, look out for one another, stay home and stay well. xxx
