Week 16 - Thursday 16th July

Hello!

I'm not sure this will be a long blog, but to be fair it's not about how much I write, it's documenting my cancer journey.  If anyone reads it, it's a bonus.  If anyone finds it helpful (apart from myself), even better!  On that note, what have I been up to over the last 7 days?

I've spend a little more time in the garden, sitting, taking photos or throwing the dog's Kong tennis ball for her. I also got to see both my parents for the first time in months.  We socially distanced in the garden, and had a catch up.

I also had the energy to bake some scones, with some preparation work done by the other half.  I was exhausted afterwards, but it was very rewarding.  I need to know where my limit is, so I know how much to work on.  Also, eating cake is a good way to put weight on.  I know, breaking news!  Sorry Cornish friends, I'm in Devon, so it's clotted cream, then jam.  When I'm allowed to visit you, I promise to do jam first!

Health wise, my bowels and bladder are slowly improving, and my energy levels are picking up very slowly.  I'm a bit more chatty and not quite as tired when I wake in the morning.  However, I'm still waking up through the night, either to dash to the loo, or to turn the fan off, because of the early menopause I'm going through.

One of the side effects of my treatment, is that I can no longer have children (this isn't an issue for us), which means the awful monthly cycles I had (heavy and painful) are gone.  This has now been replaced with random increases of temperature throughout the day, every day.  Thankfully, I have a fan next to me which I turn on as soon as I notice my temperature increase.  I just have to make sure I turn it on before I drift off to sleep!

I'm usually a very hydrated person, and have a drink to hand.  However, on Saturday I was experiencing a really bad headache, that was showing the signs to be a potential migraine.  I don't get these often thankfully, but the last few I've had, they've lead to me being physically sick.  As I'm in the process of putting the grams back on, being sick isn't the way I wanted to go.  I got myself a damp flannel, stuck it on my forehead, got into bed, closed the curtains so it was as dark as possible, and turned the fan on.  I eventually drifted off to sleep, and awoke feeling better the following morning.  I have a feeling the increase in temperature hadn't helped, coincided with the menopause and also not feeling my best.  Hopefully that will be the last headache for a long time!

I think for next week's blog, I will do my personal, frequently asked questions.  Things that I've been asked by friends, family and colleagues and list them in the next blog.  I believe I've answered most, if not all in previous blogs, but I feel for anyone who's dropping by, or anyone looking for support with cervical cancer, one go to post would be helpful.  There will be some that I'll answer from my own perspective and some I may not be able to as I'm not a medical professional.  Anyway, look out for that next Thursday!

As always, stay safe, stay well, and if you're not feeling right, get yourself checked out xxx
